That is how HTC described its very first Android tablet, the HTC Flyer. Most definitely convenient and portable, the HTC Flyer has been presented as serious competition to the iPad and direct competition to the Galaxy Tab and the BlackBerry Playbook. Looking beyond its comfortable 7-inch size, the Flyer stands out from the competition due to its “magic stylus pen”.

In terms of design, the HTC Flyer is absolutely superb:  it features a sleek brushed aluminum unibody design, perfectly complemented by parts of white plastic. The screen is lined with black frames and adorned with four touch keys (Home, Menu, Back and Stylus) that will move with you regardless of the tablet’s orientation (portrait or landscape).

In regards to hardware, the HTC Flyer comprises of a 7-inch Super LCD screen with a 1024x600 resolution, a digital pen, a single core MSM8255 Qualcomm Snapdragon processor running at 1.5GHz, Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi b/g/n connectivity, 5 megapixel rear camera (no flash) and 1.3 megapixel front camera for video calls, a microSD slot, 32GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, integrated GPS, 3G (data only), and a 4000 mAh battery, all kept in an ultra convenient 195.4 x 122 x 13.2 mm shell weighing in at only 420g.

 As for the software part, the HTC Flyer comes with Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread OS on board (an update to 3.0 available) and HTC Sense 2.1 user interface for a complete user experience that will enable you to enjoy unbelievable widgets and apps ranging from HTC weather, videos and movies on demand to a richer and more immersive web browsing experience thanks to the convenience of multiple tabs.

The HTC Flyer works in conjunction with the magic pen. But be careful! This is a digital pen, not a pen required for use on resistive screens. Each time you activate the magic stylus, the Flyer will automatically take a screen shot of the current page. This capture is where you can proceed with your note taking, drawing and scribbling. You can also highlight passages with the digital pen in the eReader app which is based on the famous Kobo Reader.

The magic stylus pen is powered by one AAA battery and includes two buttons: one to mark/draw and the other to erase. Note taking is made easy by a version of Evernote, especially designed for the HTC Flyer and Scribe.

The HTC Flyer is THE tablet to go to, if you need to take handwritten notes at any given moment. Even though, it could be considered a bit outdated by now, it is nevertheless an incredibly reliable and easy to use tablet.
